Health care must be available and of equal quality for all citizens, stated Svjetlana Zeković, a candidate from the Croatian Heart list for Montenegro HGI – From the Heart.
– The Croatian citizens’ initiative will insist on a financially sustainable health care system so that quality health care is available to every citizen under equal conditions – said Zeković.
According to her, HGI will give special emphasis to preventive health care for both adults and children in kindergartens and elementary schools, through the engagement of experts from various fields of health.
– It is necessary to force prevention, which is finally cheaper than curative. HGI will insist on the method – towards the patient. This is a method that I myself pushed for, as a pediatric cardiologist in Montenegro. And this means that we invite children or adults who are registered as patients and do not come for check-ups. In the developed world, a doctor who follows the whole family is the most respected. In the end, empty beds, not full beds, are considered success in hospital wards – said Zeković.
Health policy, he adds, must be directed towards all patients, regardless of their social position and financial status.
We should certainly not ignore the fact, says Zeković, that Europe and overseas countries value and seek experts from our area.
– We ourselves must be aware that Montenegro has excellent health workers-doctors as well as mid-level medical staff, and therefore they should be adequately paid for their work. Considering that medicine is a demanding and lifelong learning, HGI will insist on stimulating young experts so that they stay and work in their country and improve our health system together with competent institutions – said Zeković.
